Stress, Anxiety, Depression

Statistics show that during this past year, 30-40% of adults reported having anxiety or depressive episodes, with many of them becoming chronic. Nearly 80% of adults reported having some stress, with 33% reported having extreme stress. Anxiety and stress are some of the most overlooked health problems today.

Some symptoms and signs of stress can include:

  • Irritability, frustration, and mood changes
  • Feeling restless, lonely, or worthless
  • Feeling like you are losing control
  • Low energy
  • Pain and aches
  • Insomnia
  • Chest pain or rapid heartbeat
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms
  • TMJ or teeth grinding
  • Nervousness and constant worrying
  • Forgetfulness and inability to focus
  • Lack of sexual desire and/or ability
  • Constant negativity
  • Exhibiting poor judgement

Symptoms of anxiety and/or panic can include:

  • Feeling restless, nervous, or tense
  • Feeling of impending danger
  • Feeling of panic or dread
  • Rapid heartrate
  • Hyperventilating or rapid breathing
  • Difficulty focusing on other things
  • Insomnia
  • Increased sweating
  • Trembling or muscle twitching
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms
  • Feeling of weakness and lethargy
  • Feeling of dizziness or light-headedness
  • Shortness of breath or feeling of choking

The human body is designed to respond and deal with anxiety and stress, which is very normal as people deal with stress on a daily basis for brief periods of time. The conditions start to become a problem when they become chronic and remain for a long period of time. Having the body respond continuously to stress will without a doubt take a huge toll on the body and create more health problems.

So what is the difference between stress and anxiety?

Stress and anxiety can lead to similar symptoms, but stress is usually caused or triggered by an external factor. Anxiety on the other hand is characterized by excessive worries or fear that will not go away even if there are no apparent triggers.

So how does acupuncture help with stress and anxiety?

Acupuncture stimulates the body to release neurotransmitters to counter the effects of stress and anxiety. When under stress, our bodies are in the sympathetic mode or the fight-or-flight mode. Acupuncture helps the body activate the parasympathetic mode, return to the rest-and-digest mode, and help the body control the secretion of cortisol or stress hormone.

Every person is unique, so our treatments are personalized based on your needs, and what would benefit you the most. We have helped a lot of people find the relief they want, which often times can lead to better overall health.
